Abstract

1447009 Screen printing P ZIMMER 8 Aug 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 35082/74 Heading B6C A web of material is printed with sublimable dyestuff using a stencil. As shown in Fig. 1, powdered dyestuff 18 is entrained in a carrier gas, and the mixture heated to sublime the dyestuff, and fed to the interior of hollow chamber 2 inside stencil 1. Chamber 2 has outlet 3 adjacent the stencil. In alternative forms, the dyestuff may be sublimed inside chamber 2. The chamber 2 is preferably preceded by a chamber which preheats the stencil, and followed by a chamber which cools the stencil. In the form shown in Fig. 10, a foil 49 carrying the sublimable dyestuff is passed outside the stencil adjacent the web 4 to be printed. Heater 46 on the opposite side of the stencil to the foil irradiates the stencil, and radiation only impinges on the foil where allowed by the stencil, thus producing printing corresponding to the stencil.
