Abstract

1446575 Centrifugal separators; wet screening apparatus MURSKAUSKONE OY 2 Oct 1973 45946/73 Headings BID and B2P Apparatus for wet screening finely divided solids in pulp comprises: a stationary vessel 1 having a cylindrical upper. Section 2 and a frusto-conical lower section 3; a cylindrical screen 4 in the upper section 2; a rotor 7 located at the junction of the two sections 2, 3, and in use forming a pulp ring travelling at a constant angular speed in a screening zone near the screen surface; means 9 of introducing a pulp to be screened; means 10 to collect a fine portion which has passed through the screen 4; means 12, 14 to collect a coarse portion which has settled and to return a part of the coarse portion to the screening zone. The rotor 7 may be in the form of a disc or a cone and may have vertical sweeper blades 8. There may be overflow channels 15 which allow an uppermost finest layer of pulp to overflow into the fine portion outlet 10. A mechanism (not shown) may be used to vibrate the screen 4, possibly under the control of a mixture level sensor. The preferred speed of the pulp over the screen is said to be 0.5 to 5 metres/second. An example is given of wet screening cyclone sand at a rate of 13.2 dry metre tons per hour using a screen drum with a slot width of 500 microns.
