1446528 Hulling grain T SATAKE 28 Nov 1974 51670/74 Heading A2Q A grain hulling and sorting apparatus, patricularly suitable for rice, comprises a supporting frame box 62-Fig. 2, having longer longitudinal side walls and shorter transverse side walls, a hulling chamber 1 provided in said frame box adjacent one of said transverse side walls and containing a hulling apparatus 8, a winnowing means 2 provided in said frame box and arranged to receive treated grain from the hulling chamber, a hopper located above the hulling chamber for supplying grain to said hulling chamber, a conveyor 7-Fig. 1 located aside the frame box adjacent the hulling cham- and adapted to transfer upwardly a mixture of hulled and unhulled grains discharged from the hulling chamber via the winnowing means, and an inclined sorting pan 5 movably fitted above the frame box, said sorting pan having two opposite sides generally parallel to said longitudinal side walls, one of which sides is elevated above the other, being arranged to receive from said conveyor the mixture of grains at its elevated side and adjacent the hulling chamber and being mounted for oscillation obliquely along a direction parallel to the longitudinal side walls. In use, grain fed into hopper 10 is hulled incompletely by huller 8 and the hulls are-drawn by suction fan 15 to outlet 17. Any bad grain falls into trough 20 and is removed by conveyor 21. The partly hulled good grain falls into trough 18 and is carried by screw conveyor 19 and elevator 7 to hopper 52. From hopper 52 is is discharged on to oscillating sorting pan 5 where it is sorted into hulled grain E1-Fig. 4, unhulled grain E3 and mixed hulled and unhulled grain E2. The hulled grain is discharged at 40. The unhulled grain is returned via outlet 41 to hopper 10 for rehulling and the mixed hulled and unhulled grain is returned via outlet 39 to conveyor 19 for resorting. The apparatus includes automatic means whereby the rate of discharge of grain from hopper 10 is controlled by flap 11 in accordance with the loading of hopper 52.
