Abstract

1446180 Photo-sensitive materials; holography FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 30 Nov 1973 [30 Nov 1972] 55763/73 Headings G2C and G2X A photo-sensitive material comprises a metal layer and a layer of a light-sensitive organic sulphur compound, preferably containing a mercapto or thiocarbonyl group, which reacts with the metal on exposure; the metal layer acting as the support or the layers being coated in either order on a non- reactive support. Specified metals are Cu, Ag, Sn, Ni, Cd, Mg, Te, Ga, Al and Au and specified organic compounds are compounds of Formulae:- wherein R, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are H, alkyl or aryl and R and R 1 can complete a 5-or 6-membered ring R 4 is alkyl, R 5 is N or methine and R 6 completes a 5-or 6-membered ring; M, M<SP>1</SP>, M<SP>2</SP>, M<SP>3</SP>, M<SP>4</SP> can be Cu, Au or Na and M can also be Ag, Sn, Zn, Re, Se, Te; M<SP>1</SP> and M<SP>2</SP> can also be Zn, Re, Se, Te, Ti, As, NH 4 , K, Tl, Ca, Ba, and Sr; M<SP>3</SP> can also be NH 4 , Ag, K, Tl, Ca, Ba, Sr, Ti, ClO 2 , Zn, Fe or Te, and M<SP>4</SP> can also be Ag, NH 4 , K, Ca and Ba. M<SP>5</SP> is H, Na, K or NH 4 . In the examples a glass slide is plated with Ag by vacuum deposition and overcoated with copper dithiocarbonate, a metal alkyl or alkyl phenyl dithiocarbonate or 2,5-dimercapto- 1,3,4 thiodiazole-mono K salt, imagewise exposed, the unreacted overcoat removed with CH Cl 3 (dithiocarbonates) or H 2 O (thiodiazole) and the underlying Ag removed with Hg to form an amalgam. The material may be used to produce a hologram using an argon laser, the 2 beams being at an angle of 26 degrees giving a resolution of 100 degrees line/min (of Example 5). Alternatively, electrical components and electro-photographic image may be produced as the resistivity of the product is lower than the organic compound or the metal. Printing or intaglio plates can also be obtained as well as images of different reflectivity. The material may be imagewise exposed through the support especially if the metal layer is the upper layer. The contrast between the reaction product and the organic compound (when used as the upper layer) may be enhanced by applying a dye which is only absorbed by the organic compound. A binder may be present in the organic sulphur compound layer.
