Abstract

1446175 Hydrotreating catalyst AMERICAN CYANAMID CO 25 Sept 1973 44929/73 Heading B1E [Also in Division C5] A hydrotreating catalyst comprises a major portion of alumina, 10 to 20% wt molybdenum oxide and 1 to 8% wt of an oxide of cobalt and/or nickel and is in the form of particles of concave cross-sectional shape characterised by a concavity index greater than 1.0, a void fraction in the range 0.25 to 0.60, a ratio of geometric volume to geometric surface of 0.001 to 0.042 inch, a catalytic surface area of greater than 150 m<SP>2</SP>/g and a catalytic pore volume in the range of 0.35 to 0.85 cc/g, wherein a major portion of the pores are of diameter in the range of 40-90Š units. The composition may additionally contain up to 35% wt silica, based on the total weight of silica and alumina or up to 45% wt of zeolite based on the total weight of a zeolite and alumina. The catalyst may be sulphided before use.
