Abstract
1445999 Refrigeration CONTROLS CO OF AMERICA 7 Nov 1973 [10 Nov 1972] 51576/73 Heading F4H A control valve assembly 10 for regulating refrigerant flow from the evaporator in a compression-condensation refrigeration system is closed to prevent icing of the evaporator when a sensor 82 detects a response temperature at the evaporator fins. The control valve assembly includes a sleeve valve 96 and a pilot valve 90 and the sensor 82 is connected by a capillary tube 80 to the interior of bellows 76 which are located within the valve assembly 10 and which are connected by a pin 94 to the pilot valve 90. As shown, the control valve assembly is associated with a cross-charged thermostatic expansion valve 12. When icing conditions prevail, refrigerant flow is reduced to that passing through a bleed port 102 and the thermostatic expansion valve will tend to open at a lower superheat thereby increasing the flow to the evaporator. The temperature at the bellows falls below normal causing the valve to close in anticipation of the temperature at the sensor 82 falling to that which is indicative of icing. Thus, on starting up, the evaporator fin temperature at which the valve closes drifts up.
