Abstract

1445758 Rolling threads HUTOGEPGYAR 29 Nov 1973 55482/73 Heading B3M A thread is rolled on a cylindrical workpiece, e.g. the neck of a bottle, by three rollers each having slightly different profiles, one of the rollers, Fig. 3a, having a cylindrical portion C at its trailing end which deforms the initial thread formed on the workpiece at the end of the threading step. Each roller has on its end which first contacts the workpiece a thread of smaller diameter d 4 than the threads in the central region. The first thread is spaced by a distance a from the roller end, the distance varying in the three rollers. The three rollers are relatively axially displaced, respectively, by one and two-thirds of a thread pitch, and it is the last roller to contact the workpiece which has the cylindrical portion. The portion removes any sharpness or burrs from the initial workpiece thread.
