Abstract

1445500 Chair adjustments WILKHAHN WILKENING & HAHNE 25 Oct 1974 [17 July 1974] 46242/74 Heading A4J A chair comprises a seat and a backrest pivoted thereto, the backrest being adjusted in position by clamping an elongate member secured to the backrest between an eccentric cam and an abutment; the chair being supported on a gas spring; a control lever being arranged such that movement in one direction releases the eccentric cam to allow backrest adjustment, and movement in the other direction opens a valve in the gas spring to allow height adjustment. As shown in Fig. 3 the backrest is adjusted by means of strip spring 4 being clamped in the nip between cam 7 and anvil 10. A bent end 8a of the shaft 8 carrying cam 7 is biased by spring 9 to the clamping position. A spring 5 urges strip 4 leftwards to bias the seat back forwardly when the clamp 7, 10 is released. The operating lever (14), Figs. 1, 2 (not shown) has a hollow end 14a Fig. 4 which fits over shaft 8 and is engaged for limited relative rotation therewith by screw 18 engaging slot 19. (Alternatively a screw in end 14a can engage a slot - shaft 8). The valve releasing member 15 is clamped to the end 14a by a pinch bolt. Anticlockwise rotation of end 14a releases cam 7. Clockwise rotation depresses valve stem 16 without rotating shaft 8.
