Abstract

1444975 Light guides SIEMENS AG 31 July 1973 [1 Aug 1972] 36349/73 Heading G2J An optical waveguide coupling element 1 for guides having a circular or polygonal cross-section has a cross-sectional area which increases in the direction of light propagation, e.g. from a laser transmitter 2, for a predetermined distance, and then decreases less rapidly to an exit surface, e.g. at a modulator 4. The element 1 cuts down the amount of light transmitted after two or more reflections at the surfaces 5, 3, see Fig. 3 (not shown) and depends on the fact that light is attenuated slowly for a divergent apex angle and for small convergent apex angles, E2, but quickly for larger convergent angles El.
