Abstract

1444470 Easy-open can ends BROKEN HILL PTY CO Ltd 1 May 1974 [2 May 1973] 19145/74 Heading B8D A push-in closure 2 in a sheet metal can end 1 is provided with an easy-opening means for relieving the pressure in the can prior to or concurrently with opening of the push-in closure. Although the push-in closure may be formed by scoring and the easy opening means may be formed by a lift-up or pullout closure, preferably both the push-in closure and easyopening means each comprises a closure member 3 and 8 which is severed from the can end except long hinged connection and which is sealed by a sealant 6 and 11 to the overlapping edge portion of the opening left on severing the closure member. The closure member 8 may be asymmetrically formed in the closure member 3 adjacent the hinged connection. Alternatively, a portion of the periphery of the closure member 8 may be formed by the portion of the edge of the closure member 3 located diametrically opposite the hinged connection Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown).
