Abstract

1444422 Friction clutches CONCENTRIC PUMPS Ltd 2 Sept 1974 [5 Oct 1973] 46603/73 Addition to 1329044 Heading F2C [Also in Division F1] In a temperature controlled friction clutch between an internal combustion engine 14 and a cooling fan 15 wherein a wax filled thermostat 26 responsive to engine temperature acts through an axially slidable rod 27, a sleeve 18, a diaphragm spring 25 and presser plate 23 to engage clutch plates 21, 22 respectively fast with the fan 15 and a hollow driving member 10, lost motion is provided between the thermostat 26 and rod 27. The relative axial positions of the rod 27 and sleeve 18 are adjustable to adjust the lost motion between the thermostat 26 and rod 27 and thus the temperature at which the clutch engages. The thermostat 26 is provided in a chamber 13 through which engine lubricating oil flows to the crank-shaft. The hollow sleeve 10 is connected to the end of the engine crank-shaft and is driven thereby. A pulley 24 fast with the sleeve 10 drives other vehicle accessories, e.g. an electric generator.
