Abstract

1443704 Extracting a liquid/liquid mixture with a solvent DAVY POWERGAS Ltd 31 Aug 1973 [31 Aug 1972] 40473/72 Headings B1D and B1F In a liquid/liquid contactor, the liquid components of a mixture of liquids are separated by solvent extraction by feeding the mixture and the solvent via conduits 19 and 20 respectively into chamber 15, whereby stirrer 25 forms an emulsion which passes through droplet coalescence enhancing perforate packing 17 to separator chamber 17, and solvent containing one of the liquids, and the other liquid, are drawn off through conduits 21 and 23. Packing 17 may comprise a labyrinth formation of tubular, ring like, saddle-shaped or plate like elements, or woven or knitted mesh fabric, may be made of P.T.F.E. or stainless steel or of two different materials, one of which is wettable by the dispersed phase but not the continuous phase, and the other of which is wettable by the continuous phase but not the dispersed phase.
