Abstract
1443578 Sleeve couplings INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 19 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 58872/73 Heading H2E A radially compressible, electrically conductive sleeve coupling is preformed to have at least one internal recess 24 or protuberance (not shown), preferably annular, located to lie against one electric cable 1 and another, 25, to lie against the second cable 2 and prior to assembly the inner surface is free to the atmosphere. An internal ridge 21 may be used to locate cable ends. Upon compression the recesses grip the outer layers 6, 11 of the cable. For an oil cooled cable an incompressible insert 13 is placed with half inside the bore of each cable, this may also have recesses on it. Other embodiments have steps (46, 47, 49, 50 Fig. 3 not shown), on the inside of the sleeve each having a groove or recess to embed, after radial compression, into the various layers of a multilayered conductor such layers being cut into stepform also. The same stepped sleeve may be used with twisted wire cables (Fig. 7 not shown). Preferably the recesses have walls at an angle of 45 to 90 degrees with the sleeve axis, and are of trapezoid form.
