Abstract

1443549 Foamable polycarbonate compositions GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 19 Dec 1973 [2 Jan 1973] 58867/73 Heading C3C A foamable injection-mouldable composition comprises (1) an aromatic carbonate polymer, (2) an impact enhancing additive which is polyethylene, polypropylene, polyisobutylene, a copolymer of ethylene and propylene or an alkyl acrylate, a polyurethane elastomer, or an organopolysiloxane-polycarbonate polymer, and (3) a minor amount by wt. of a foming agent. The polycarbonate may be the reaction product of bisphenol-A (i.e. 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)- propane and phosgene. The foaming agent may be 5-phenyltetrazole, dinitrosopentamethylene, tetramine, p-toluene sulphonyl semicarbazide, calcium oxalate or trihydrazino-s-triazine. The composition was injection moulded in the example.
