Abstract

1443306 Organo sulphur derivatives of trichlorodicyanobenzenes DIAMOND SHAMROCK CORP 10 Dec 1974 [12 Dec 1973 30 Oct 1974] 53421/74 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formula wherein R is C 1-12 alkylene, C 1 -C 12 alkenylene aralkynylene, arylene or aralkylene; X is H, halogen, CN, SCN, amino, carboxy acyl, carboxy acyloxy, alkylthio, alkylsulphonyl or alkylsulphonyloxy; n is 0, 1 or 2 and m is 1, 2 or 3; with the proviso that when n is 0, the -CN groups are in the 1- and 3-positions and X is H, R is not methylene. Compounds wherein n is 0 may be obtained by alkylating an appropriate mercaptotrichlorodicyanobenzene, e.g. with a dialkyl sulphate in an aqueous alkaline medium. Compounds wherein n is 1 or 2 may be obtained by oxidizing the compounds wherein n is 0 with either a peroxy compound in an acid medium or H 2 O 2 in an acid medium. The compounds of the above formula have pesticidal activity and may be applied to the control of fungi and bacteria.
