Abstract

1443087 Cable jointing BICC Ltd 28 Feb 1975 [28 Feb 1974] 9167/74 Heading B5A To insert a cable into a cable joint or termination enclosure an appropriate hole 2 is made in an enclosure part 1 of plastics material and the cable C is pushed therethrough. A two-part mould 4 is assembled around the cable and clamped at flange 6 to the enclosure part 1. Molten thermoplastics is injected into the mould through the inlet 7 and is allowed to discharge from the outlet 8 until the surfaces of the enclosure part 1 and the cable sheath have been made soft whereupon the supply and discharge of plastics is stopped and the plastics in the mould is allowed to harden while the volume of the mould cavity is reduced, e.g. by movement of a plunger in the inlet or outlet, to compensate for contraction of the plastics on cooling. The mould may be tubular with the parts secured together by at least one circumferential clip and with clamp locating recesses on the end face.
