Abstract

1443086 Bacteriostatic diaper PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 22 Feb 1974 [23 Feb 1973] 8092/74 Heading A5E A disposable diaper, or element thereof, has dispersed therein a urine-soluble salt of an acid with a bis-biguanide having the general formula: where A and A' are the same or different and are phenyl groups, optionally substituted by alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, hydroxyl or halogen groups; R and R' are the same or different and are hydrogen, or alkyl or aralkyl groups; X and X' are the same or different and are -(CH2)mwhere m is from 0 to 3; and Y is either a hydrocarbon chain, optionally interspersed with oxygen atoms or aromatic groups, or a dialkoxybenzene radical having not more than 15 carbon atoms, the acid being either: (i) an inorganic acid; or (ii) a polyhydroxycarboxylic acid having not more than 6 carbon atoms; or (iii) a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid having not more than 18 carbon atoms; or (iv) a sulphonic acid having the formula ZSO3H where Z is an alkyl group carrying at least one hydroxy substituent. Preferred urine-soluble salts are the dihydrochloride, digluconate, diacetate, distearate, dilaurate and dioleate of 1, 6-di-(N-p-chlorophenyldiguanido) hexane, dihydrochloride, digluconate and diacetate of 1, 6-di-(N-phenyldiguanido) hexane; diacetate and digluconate of 1,6- di-(N-phenylethyldiguanido) hexane, dipropionate and digluconate of 1,10-di-(N-p-chlorophenyldiguanido) decane; diacetate and digluconate of 1, 5-di-(N-p-chlorophenyldiguanido) pentane; diacetate and digluconate of 1, 4-di- (N-p-chlorophenyldiguanido) butane; and dimalate and digluconate of 1, 2-di-(N-p-chlorophenyldiguanido) ethane.
