Abstract

1442560 Pipe coupling SOC ANON DES ETABS STAUBLI (FRANCE) 23 Dec 1974 [3 Jan 1974] 55569/74 Heading F2G [Also in Division F4] A non-return device for insertion in a supply connection between a welding torch and a source of gas therefore, comprises hollow male and female members, A, B adapted to lock together to open a loaded closure valve 9 arranged in member B, a flame stopping means 4 in member A, and a movable valve 15 adapted to be normally open, and to close on build up of back pressure. Member A is connected to the welding torch, and member B is connected to the gas generator. The flame stopping means 4 comprises a cartridge of sintered metal, valve 15 is urged towards seat 6c by a spring 17, and valve 9 is urged against an annular seat 1 by a spring 10. A plug 13 having a locking projection 13b is urged outwardly in a transverse bore 7a in member B, by a spring 14. In operation valves 9 and 15 are closed until member A is inserted in member B, whereupon valve 9 is moved to the open position by extension 2a of member A, and the latter is locked by projection 13b. The gas supply in pipe 8 now pushes square-sectioned valve 15 to the left so that gas passes through the central bore in member A, and via cartridge 4, to the torch. If during welding an explosion occurs, the flame is stopped by cartridge 4, and the counter pressure moves valve 15 to the closed position.
