Abstract

1442530 Watches CITIZEN WATCH CO Ltd 25 June 1974 [25 June 1973 9 July 1973] 28041/74 Heading G3T In an automatically wound watch movement having an oscillatory weight 31 pivoted at the movement centre and carrying a pinion 16, the usual winding train bridge is eliminated and the pinion meshes with a gear 2a which is mounted, like the timing train and the remainder of a reduction train for winding the barrel 5, between a bridge 11 and a pillar plate 12. The reduction train includes a one-way clutch so that winding occurs in one direction of oscillation only. As shown this comprises a ratchet wheel 2b loose on the arbor of pinion unit 2 and fixed to the wheel 2a. The ratchet teeth mesh with planetary pinions 2d, 2d<SP>1</SP> carried by a disc 2c which is fast with the arbor and thus also with output pinion 2e. During rotation in the winding direction, the planetary pinions are locked by the ratchet teeth and the disc 2c rotates with the wheel 2a. In the reverse direction, the pinions revolve idly about their mounting pins 32, 33. An alternative clutch using a one-way coupling spring (41), Fig. 11 (not shown) is also described. The barrel engages the pinion of a centre wheel 38, although not so shown, and this wheel drives a third wheel 13, fourth wheel (14), Fig. 3 (not shown) and an escape wheel (15), all pivoted between the bridge 11 and plate 12. The weight 31 with its hub 1 are shown pivoting about a fixed pin 35 but ballbearing mountings are also described. Undesired unwinding of the barrel is prevented by a quickly detachable click (8), Figs. 1 and 4 (not shown) acting on wheel 3a which is driven by the pinion 2e.
