Abstract

1442481 Printing blanket DAYCO CORP 8 March 1974 [9 April 1973] 10472/74 Heading B6C [Also in Division B5] A printing blanket 21 has a holding bar 24 which comprises a channel member having a pair of legs 31, 32 diverging from a bight 30, at least one leg having a plurality of tooth-like projections 33 extending therefrom toward the other leg, and at least one inspection aperture 34 in one leg to enable inspection of the blanket 21 to ensure positioning of an edge thereof closely adjacent to the bight 30. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the bar 24 is made from steel, aluminium or plastics material by roll forming or extrusion and the projections 33 are in the form of V-shaped tabs punched therefrom. Alternatively, the tabs 33 may be trapezium shaped or semi-circular. The tabs 33 are arranged in rows and may be aligned with or staggered with respect to the tabs in the adjacent row. Aligned inspection apertures 34 are formed in both legs 31, 32. A flange 42 is formed on the leg 31 to hold the bar 24 and its blanket 21 in position on an associated cylinder. Preferably, the blanket 21, Fig. 1, comprises three woven fabric layers 22 with an ink-transferring layer 23, e.g. of natural or synthetic rubber or plastics material, bonded thereto. The tabs 33 pierce completely through the layers 22 and partially penetrate the layer 23. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, tabs 33A, 43A are punched out of each leg 31A, 32A, respectively, and are arranged so that, when the bar is clamped in position on the blanket, the tabs 33A, 34A do not strike each other. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6, the bar 24B is extruded with rib-like structures which are machined or cut to form projections 33B with shaped sides 45B.
