1442349 Vehicle washing apparatus A ROHE GmbH 24 Oct 1973 [24 Oct 1972] 49407/73 Heading B7J [Also in Division H1] Vehicle washing apparatus comprises a gantry 2 movable along rails 1 and supporting side brushes 4, rotatable about vertical axes and pivotable at their upper ends in planes parallel to the gantry and at right angles thereto and a roof brush 9 pivotable by arms 11 about a horizontal axis, the brushes each having a mercury switch associated with a degree of pivotal freedom so that should a specific angle of pivoting beyond a defined zero take place the brush movement in that direction is reversed and the movement of the gantry is stopped, and should pivoting take place beyond a second greater specific angle the movement of the gantry is reversed. The mercury switches each consist of a circular tube 12 having a restriction 24, a zero position contact 14 and first and second pivotal position contacts 15, 16, the switch being pivoted at 30, adjustable by a screw 27 and encapsulated in a plastics block 26. Fig. 5 shows contacts 14, 15, 16 associated with the switch of brush 9 in a circuit with lift motor 35 and gantry traversing motor 36, relay 37 being connected with motor 35 and relays 44 and 41 with motor 36 for forward and reverse movement. Should the brush pivot through the first specific angle, contacts 14 and 15 will close, actuating relay 37 and operating lift motor 35. If the brush pivots through the second specific angle contacts 14 and 16 will also close actuating relay 41 so that the direction of the gantry is reversed.
