Abstract

1314840 Vehicle washing apparatus CECCATO & C SpA 18 Dec 1970 [20 Dec 1969] 60317/70 Heading B7J Vehicle washing apparatus comprises a portal frame 4, which can be displaced relative to a vehicle V by means of a motor 12, a rotary scrubbing brush 1 carried by brush supports 8 so as to be vertically displaceable in slots 8<SP>1</SP> therein, a motor 11 for raising the brush, a sensing device 10 which causes a circuit to operate the motor 12 when the brush supports are in their normal position, and to operate only the motor 11 to raise the brush when the brush supports are pivoted through more than a predetermined angle, and a counterweight 9 arranged to allow the brush 1 to descend when the motor 11 is de-energized. The portal frame may be displaced in either direction, and the brush rotated in either direction. On changing the direction of displacement of the frame and rotation of the brush by switches 16, 16<SP>1</SP>, see Fig. 2, a pair of switches 2, 2<SP>1</SP> are alternately opened and closed, so that when the brush supports 8 are pivoted by more than the predetermined angle the motor 11 is stopped. A switch 13 tripped by a dog 14 may cause the apparatus to be stopped if the brush reaches a predetermined level. The operating sequence of the apparatus is illustrated in Fig. 3 (not shown).
