1442344 Altering physical properties; forging crankshafts DAVID BROWN TRACTORS Ltd 17 Sept 1974 [13 Oct 1973] 47913/73 Headings B3H and B3V Crankshafts are treated by pressing into the fillet 13 of a crankpin and/or journal 10 arcuate indenters 16 having a larger minimum indenting radius R than the radius r of the pin or journal 10 respectively. Fatigue strength is improved and the crankshaft may be straightened by indenting the central journal of a three-journal crankshaft. The crank pins are supported on an anvil 11 over the halt-surface furthest from the crankshaft axes and indented over part of the half surface nearest the axes.
