Abstract

1441194 Liquid applicators G SUGIMOTO 1 April 1974 14370/74 Heading A4K An applicator for a liquid e.g. paint or glue comprises a rigid barrel 11 having a squeeze bulb 12 at one end and open at the other to receive a flexible cartridge 28 which communicates with an applicator head 34 which is sealingly clampable to the barrel 11. Means 54-62 are provided to restrict the flow of liquid from the barrel 11 to the applicator head 34 and barrel 11 is provided with a handle 16 which is movable between two positions along the length of the barrel. As shown, the applicator end 30 of the cartridge 28 is secured to an adapter 31 which has a portion 31 A which is flexible and of oval cross-section and which carries the applicator head 34 of foam or bristles. To fill the cartridge the lever 54 is put into the position shown in Fig. 8 and squeeze bulb 12 is used to draw liquid up from a supply vessel. Lever 54 is now rotated in the direction of arrow 63 so that end 62 of arm 61 presses against and distorts the part 31A of the adapter 31 to prevent the liquid flowing back. The liquid is supplied to the applicator head in use by bulb 12. The handle 16 is movable between the full line position of Fig. 1 for normal use to the broken line position to allow filling of the cartridge. The adapter 31 is sealed against the barrel 11 by means of half rings 43, 48' which bear against washer 33 under the action of arms 45, 45A operated by cam surfaces 53 and rotatable sleeve 48.
