Abstract
1441167 Self-closing closure N B NILSON 15 Aug 1973 [15 Aug 1972] 38601/73 Heading B8T A self-closing closure consists of a cylindrical member 12 having an external radially extending flexible flange 16 at its lower edge and a frusto-conical flange 14 which forms a dispensing orifice 15 at its upper edge, the flange 16 terminating at its outer and inner edges by downwardly projecting flanges 17 and 18 respectively ; and a second cylindrical member 1 having an internal screw thread 3, an external radially extending flexible flange 4 at its upper edge and a tubular nozzle 9, integrally mounted above the screw threaded portion of member 1, closed at its upper end and having dispensing orifices 11 in its side wall and an external annular groove 20 around its upper end, the flange 4 terminating at its outer and inner edges by upwardly projecting flanges 5 and 7 respectively. The members are engaged by inserting the tubular nozzle 9 concentrically into member 12 and snap engaging flanges 17 and 18 with flanges 5 and 7 respectively by the co-operating beads 6 and 8 and simultaneously snap engaging the internal edge of dispensing orifice 15 with groove 20. The assembly is screwed on to a closure adapted to allow manual pressurizing of fluid contents. The member 12 is pulled away from the container so as to disengage flanges 7 and 18 and orifice 15 and groove 20, but not flanges 5 and 17, unlocking the closure. This position is not shown in the drawings. Pressurizing the fluid contents of the container forces the contents into the void space between the members 1 and 12 which causes flexing of the radial flanges 4 and 16 moving orifice 15 away from a bevelled shoulder 19 of the tubular nozzle 9 opening the closure. Relief of pressure allows elastic memory to reclose the closure which may subsequently be locked by snap fitting the respective parts as described above.
