Abstract

1441081 Tetrazamacrocyclic dyestuffs and complexes thereof IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 14 Oct 1974 [9 Jan 1974] 00973/74 Heading C4P The invention comprises dyes of Formula I and metal complexes thereof of Formula II where Y is a group capable of enhancing the reactivity of halogen atom in a para position to it on a benzene ring, X is H, halogen, NO 2 , alkoxy or optionally substituted alkyl, aryl or aryloxy, R is optionally substituted C 2 or C, alkylene, 1,2-cyoloalkylene, 1,2-arylene, 1,2- heteroarylene or 1,8-naphthylene, R<SP>1</SP> is H, alkyl or optionally substituted aryl and M is a di valent metal. The dyes of Formula I may be prepared by reacting a compound of Formula III with a diamine H 2 NRNH 2 and the complexes of Formula II may be prepared by reacting a dye of Formula I with a salt of the metal M or by reacting a compound of Formula III, a diamine H 2 NRNH 2 and a salt of the metal M. The dyes of Formula I and their complexes may be used to colour textiles, inks and paints and to bulk dye polymeric materials in a variety of shades. The complexes of Formula II may also be used as catalysts for oxidation and reduction reactions.
