1445989 Dyeing synthetic materials IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Jan 1974 [15 Jan 1973] 2037/73 Heading D1B Synthetic polymeric materials e.g. polyamides, acid-modified polyamides and polyesters and polymers and copolymers of acrylonitrile are dyed or printed with dyestuffs of the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is H or optionally sugstituted alkyl, R<SP>2</SP> is optionally substituted aryl, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>5</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> are H, optionally substituted alkyl, aralkyl or aryl, acyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, halogen, cyano, nitro, or a group -COOR<SP>7</SP>, -CONR<SP>8</SP>R<SP>9</SP>, -SO 2 NR<SP>8</SP>R<SP>9</SP> or -NR<SP>10</SP>R<SP>11</SP> wherein R<SP>7</SP> is optionally substituted C 1 -C 4 alkyl, R<SP>8</SP> and R<SP>9</SP> are H or optionally substituted C 1 -C 4 -alkyl or aryl, or together form a heterocyclic ring with the amide nitrogen atom, R<SP>10</SP> is H or optionally substituted C 1 -C 4 alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or acyl, R<SP>11</SP> is aryl or R<SP>10</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> together may form a heterocyclic ring with the nitrogen atom, the ring optionally containing further hetero atoms R<SP>4</SP> may be the same as R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>5</SP> or R<SP>6</SP> except that when R<SP>4</SP> is NR<SP>10</SP>R<SP>11</SP> R<SP>10</SP> may be H, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, aralkyl, aryl or acyl and R<SP>11</SP> may be aryl or with R<SP>10</SP> may form a heterocyclic ring with the nitrogen atom, or if R<SP>10</SP> is not acyl, R<SP>11</SP> may be acyl, Y is -O-C 1 -C 4 alkyl or NR<SP>12</SP>R<SP>13</SP> where R<SP>12</SP> and R<SP>13</SP> are each independently optionally substituted alkyl or aryl groups, or can form a heterocyclic ring with the amide nitrogen atom and when Y is NR<SP>12</SP>R<SP>13</SP>, R<SP>4</SP> can be the same as R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> or R<SP>6</SP> and X is an anion. The dyes are applied from an acid, neutral or slightly alkaline aqueous bath at pH 3-8 at 40-120‹C.
