1441065 Shelving BARTON-KING SYSTEMS CORP 2 April 1974 14492/74 Heading A4B [Also in Division F2] A supporting structure for shelving, storage or other purposes comprises modules each consisting of four L section corner posts 12 and a number of horizontal support members inter-connecting the posts, the connections between the support members and corner posts being by pairs of headed projections 48 on the ends of the former being interlocked with pairs of keyhole type apertures in rows of equally spaced apertures provided in each limb of the L section posts. The limbs of each post, as seen in cross-section, are of unequal length, there being two rows of openings 28, 32 in the longer limb and one row of openings 18 in the shorter limb, the openings in the rows 18 and 32 being opposite each other while those in row 28 are staggered to provide alternative fixing positions whereby the support members can be arranged approximately horizontal even when the structure is assembled on uneven ground. Each headed projection 48 is in the form of a rivet, Fig. 3, having a head 52 adapted tb pass through a central portion of one of the apertures 18, 28 or 32, and a shank 54 adapted to fit tightly into either of two reduced portions of each aperture which extend axially off each post on either side of the central portion, so that the posts can be used either way up. The supports comprise main support bars 42 of L section, each having a short horizontal flange 44 and a long horizontal flange on the ends of which the projections 48 are rivetted, and further supports, e.g. bridging pieces 74 having end-plates 82 with the projections 48, strengthening members 92, 104 engaged between pairs of parallel bars 42 by sliding fit connections, and wall support bars 83. Shelving may be either plywood shelves 102, having apertures 188 for partition supports 182, or metal shelves 112 each comprising a number of inverted channel members 114 the flanges 116 of which are secured together apart from the outer flanged 116 whose inturned edge portions 118 rest on U section support members 122, Fig. 10, used as an alternative to support bars 42, the members 122 each having a short inner flange 128 and a long outer flange 124 which is extended at the ends of the member to provide a vertical portion 132 having a pair of the projections 48. Adjustable divider rods 182, Fig. 1, may be fitted in apertures 188 in each of the plywood shelves for partitioning the latter.
