Abstract

1440831 Isocyanurate polymer polysaccharide foams IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Sept 1974 [9 Oct 1973] 47080/73 Headings C3C and C3R A foamed polymer having an isocyanurate ring structure and a non-film-forming tri- or higher polysaccharide present as a filler is made by mixing together an organic polyisocyanate, an isocyanate polymerization catalyst, a blowing agent and the polysaccharide and allowing the mixture to react to form the foam. Water and a hydroxy compound may also be present in the reaction mixture. In the examples a mixture of methylene - bridged polyphenyl polyisocyanates (containing di- and higher polyisocyanates) is mixed with trimethylol propane modified polydiethylene adipate, an ethylene oxide/-oxypropylated glycol, trichloropropyl phosphate, a siloxane oxyalkylene copolymer, and trichlorofluoromethane and one of maize starch, whey powder or wheat flour and then as catalyst a mixture of potassium acetate, ethylene glycol and water, and the mixture was allowed to foam.
