Abstract
1440530 Purifying effluents by oxidation STERLING DRUG Inc 8 Jan 1974 [12 Jan 1973] 00844/74 Heading C1C In a method of operating a wet air oxidation system, an aqueous organic-containing stream is passed through a heat exchanger to a reactor, the effluent from the reactor is passed through the other side of the heat exchanger, and air is added to the system for oxidation of the organic-containing stream, the air fed to the system being split into two portions, one portion of the air being added before the heat exchanger and the remaining portion being added after the heat exchanger and prior to the reactor, the amount of air added prior to the heat exchanger being predetermined so as to be only sufficient to prevent polymerization of the stream. Examples relate to the oxidation of waste streams containing (1) acrylonitrile and (2) phenol and formaldehyde.
