1440526 Lubrication P T MITCHELL and P A PAGAN 3 Sept 1973 41308/73 Heading F2A A self-lubricating bearing assembly comprises a shaft 1; a bearing bush 2; a lubricant sump 5; a lubricant collector 9 in the bush 2 above the shaft 1 and in communication with the bearing surfaces; a flanged member 12 secured to the shaft 1 and carrying a ring structure 17 having a radially inwardly facing channel 19 for collecting lubricant from the sump 5 at relatively high shaft speeds; a lubricant scraper 20 disposed over the collector 9 for transferring lubricant from the channel 19 to the collector 9; and a series of cup-shaped collector cells 25 carried by the ring structure 17, each cell 25 having radially inner and outer walls extending along the ring structure 17, a port 27 for receiving lubricant and being adapted to deliver oil to the collector 9 at relatively low shaft speeds. In the embodiment described, each cell 25 has an outlet 28 with a lip 30, Fig. 3 (not shown), surrounded by a channel 29 to counteract surface tension during discharge. The scraper 20 can slide on a cylindrical member 11 which supports it so that relative axial movement of the shaft 1 does not interfere with the scraping action in the channel 19.
