Abstract

1440519 Web roll changing AERO-SHAFT AB 22 June 1973 29820/73 Heading B8R In a method of web roll changing the trailing end 32 of an expiring web is guided and pressed against the periphery of the replacement web roll 1<SP>1</SP> by one of a pair of movable pressure rollers 46, 47, for driving the web roll 1<SP>1</SP>. The apparatus comprises a pair of rollers 46, 47 mounted on brackets 40 for pivotal movement on a shaft 36 and associated with an actuating lever 37 which is particulated to a fluid actuated cylinder 39. On actuation of the cylinder the brackets 40 which also support a pinion 42 are pivoted to bring the roller 47 supporting the trailing end of the expiring web into contact with the web roll 1<SP>1</SP>. Movement of roller 47 is assisted by a stationary toothed segment 48 over which rolls the pinion 42. The leading end of web roll 1<SP>1</SP> is provided with adhesive tapes (3, Fig. 10) and the oscillatable knife 29 is actuated when a metallic tab (4, Fig. 11) passes a photo-cell (30, Fig. 1). The pair of rollers 46, 47 may be replaced by a pair of rollers (26, 27, Fig. 1) mounted on respective fluid cylinder driven bell crank arms (24, 25, Fig. 1). The web roll 1<SP>1</SP> may be driven indirectly by a tape drive.
