Abstract
1440479 Jet cutting of materials ATLAS COPCO AB 3 Oct 1973 [3 Oct 1972 (2)] 46127/73 Heading E1F In an apparatus for cutting spallable material at least two mutually inclined high velocity jets 14, 16 of eroding fluid are directed on and moved along the material to form slits 18, 20 in the material, the jets being inclined in a plane normal to their direction of movement and being so spaced apart that material between the slits spalls out to form a groove 12 of a depth in which the jets will be divergent at the base of the groove and will enter the groove without contacting the sides of the groove. The two slits may be formed simultaneously or may be formed alternatively in step wise fashion. The angle between the centre line of each jet and the centre line of the groove may be fixed or adjustable. The jet forming nozzles may be fixed relative to each other or may be movable relative to one another such as being movable apart while the angle between the jets is maintained constant.
