Abstract

1440013 Glass fibre manufacture OWENSCORNING FIBERGLAS CORP 15 June 1973 28693/73 Addition to 1421175 Heading C1M [Also in Divisions D1 and G3] The arrangement for winding packages of glass fibre where the speed of the package is matched to the linear speed of the glass fibre material by a primary automatic control system as disclosed in the parent Specification is modified by providing a control system additionally for the pulling wheel which operates instead of the primary system during periods when the arrangement is accelerating or decelerating. The primary control system is the same as shown in the parent Specification and employs a tension sensing arrangement comprising arm 56 which operates a potentiometer 175 to provide an input to controller 140 which alters the energization of a clutch in the package winding gear to keep the material tension constant. The additional control uses a second potentiometer 204 which supplies a signal to controller 202 which alters the energization of brake 190 on the shaft of the pulling wheel (40). The primary control is switched off when the additional control is used during periods when the material is accelerated or decelerated. Timers are used to control when the primary and secondary controls are respectively operating.
