1439590 A device for securing key material to a building element; supporting key material; lintels HENDERSON SAFETY TANK CO Ltd 15 Nov 1973 [8 Dec 1972 18 Dec 1972] 56875/72 and 58432/72 Headings E1B E1K and E2S A device, for securing key material, e.g. expanded metal, or mesh, 32 to a building element, e.g. a lintel 32, comprises a strip 10, 10' for attachment to the element and having a plurality of foldable tabs 12, 12' formed integrally with the strip and spaced longitudinally of the strip for engaging the key material, the tabs extending from the strip, at, or adjacent, a longitudinal edge thereof. As shown in Figs. 1A, 1B the devices each consist of a steel strip 10, 10' from which the notches 11, 11' have been cut, or stamped out, to form tabs 12, 12' which are continuous or, in spaced groups, respectively. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 1C (not shown), a steel strip (20) is cut along one edge, at (21), to leave a number of relatively widely-spaced, single tabs (22). In one application, Fig. 2, a lintel 30, having a recessed front face 31, has steel strips 35, 34 spot welded to its upper and lower surfaces respectively the tabs 34a of the strip 34 projecting away from the face 31 and the tabs 35a of the strip 35 being located adjacent the upper edge of the front face 31. The key material 32 is first passed across the strip 34 to engage the tabs 34a and is then folded over the front face 31 of the lintel and engaged with the previously bent up tabs 35a. The strip 34 may be reversed so that the tabs 34a, before being folded, project in the same direction as the tabs 35a before the latter are folded. Strips (43, 44), Fig. 3 (not shown), bedded in the mortar between a lintel (40) and the adjacent courses of bricks, are engaged by key material (42). If the latter is to extend across one face of the lintel a strip can be secured to the lintel underside. In a further embodiment of the strip, Fig. 4 (not shown), cuts (51) are formed along one edge of a steel strip (50) to provide tabs (52) which are bent out of the plane of the strip. The strip, Fig. 4 (not shown), can be modified to provide tabs spaced in the manner shown in Figs. 1A; 1B, and Fig. 1C not shown.
