Abstract
1439468 Infrared measuring systems INFRA SYSTEMS Inc 8 June 1973 [8 June 1972] 27504/73 Heading G1A The invention relates to a two channel infrared absorption analyzer for measuring a property such as thickness of a web of moving material such as a polycarbonate or polypropylene film (especially in the thickness range of À0002 to À001 inch. To overcome the effects of spurious ambient and reflection signals a reference beam is provided which responds to the spurious effects alone i.e. with the strong absorption line energy filtered out, and the sample web is irradiated alternately by the "broad band" and reference beams. As described the infrared source comprises a filament lamp energized from a stabilized power .supply. This is "chopped" by a disc having four holes alternately containing a neutral filter and an absorber of the same or similar material to the sample web, Fig. 5 (not shown). Alternatively a conventional mirror beam-splitter and chopper may be used, Fig. 1B (not shown). The detector is preferably a lead selenide photoconductor. Specification 1348978 is referred to.
