Abstract

1439103 Waste disposal apparatus ANDA Ltd 10 Feb 1975 [19 Jan 1974] 02621/74 Heading B2A Waste disposal apparatus comprises a first comminuting stage followed by a second stage or further stages, with protection of the stages against overload by discharging oversize or tramp material in each stage. As described, stage 1 includes a shaft 2 and cutters 3 cooperating with fixed bars 4 and driven by an hydraulic motor or high-torque electric motor, at e.g. 17 r.p.m. Stage 2 includes a shaft 7 with discs 8 each having six radially-projecting teeth 9 cooperating with fixed bars 10 and similarly driven. Sensing of overload of the first stage motor effects reversal for a predetermined time and a gate 5 is operated by a ram 6 or a solenoid actuated at the end of this time. A similar shutter or gate 11 is provided for the second stage and similarly actuated after a predetermined reversal cycle of the second stage motor. Comminutor material is fine enough e.g. ¢" cube to be flushed by water down a relatively small pipe e.g. 3" diameter. If required additives may be used to render hazardous materials safe. A preliminary ram may be used to compress large articles, e.g. oil drums prior to comminution.
