Abstract
1439007 Fischer-Tropsch synthesis SOUTH AFRICAN COAL OIL & GAS CORP Ltd 30 Aug 1973 [5 Sept 1972] 40928/73 Heading C5E A Fischer-Tropsch synthesis of liquid hydrocarbons from a gas mixture comprising CO, H 2 and CO 2 is carried out at 280‹ C. or more such that the carbon deposition factor defined as Pco/P<SP>3</SP>H 2 x 10<SP>3</SP>, wherein Pco and PH 2 are the partial pressure of CO and H 2 measured in the feed gas entry region in units of kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>, is adjusted to a value of at most 8 (kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>)<SP>-2</SP> and that the basicity of the catalyst is set to value equal to that of a pure iron catalyst containing up to 0À001 g. K 2 O/m.<SP>2</SP>, with the proviso that where the carbon deposition factor is 4 or more the basicity of the catalyst is less than 0À0005 K 2 O/m.<SP>2</SP> The synthesis may be carried out at a reactor pressure of 32 Kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> or more.
