Abstract
1439002 Lithographic printing processes VICKERS Ltd 4 Sept 1973 [12 Sept 1972 22 June 1973] 29917/73 and 40335/73 Divided out of 1438634 Heading B6C A method of lithographic printing comprises applying water and ink to the relevant receptive areas of the surface of a litho printing plate and providing a pair of electrodes spaced by electrically insulating material in the surface of a monitoring zone which is located to receive water during printing and determining the amount of water present on the material as a function of the electrical resistance between the electrodes. The monitoring zones may be located on the plate or elsewhere such as a roller of the damping train. The resistance may be measured using a phase sensitive detector or by comparing the same with the resistance of a reference cell containing as electrolyte the water applied to the water receptive areas of the plate. The ink used in the printing may also be measured and controlled. The method may be incorporated in a machine using a closed loop control system, see Fig. 9 (not shown).
