Abstract
1438973 Developer carriers XEROX CORP 25 May 1973 [30 May 1972] 25119/73 Heading G2H [Also in Divisions B1-B2] A coated carrier for electrostatographic developer mixtures containing finely-divided toner particles, comprises a substrate comprising a surface having a coating thereon, the coating comprising a fluoro-polymer, which has a critical surface tension of between 10 and 31 dynes per centimetre and which is between 20‹C and 25‹C, a fluorine content between 10 and 85 wt. per cent based on the weight of the fluoro-polymer, a melting point of between 80‹C and 330‹C, a Rockwell hardness in the range between R10 and R105, a compressive strength of between 1,700 p.s.i. and 8,680 p.s.i. Suitable fluoro-polymers are polyvinyl fluoride, polyvinylidene fluoride, polytrifluoro-ethylene, polytrifluorochloroethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyperfluoropropylene, poly (1,1-dihyroperfluorooctylmethacrylate), mixtures of polyvinylidene fluoride and acrylic polymers, copolymers of vinylidene fluoride and acrylic monomers, vinylidenefluoride and trifluoroethylene, styrene and perfluorobutyl methacrylate, styrene and perfluoroethylmethacrylate, tetrafluoroethylene and hexafluoropropylene, vinyl fluoride and vinylidene fluoride, vinylidene fluoride and tetrafluoroethylene, vinylidene fluoride and hexafluoropropylene, fluoroalkyl silanes, fluoro terpolymers such as that of tetrafluoroethylene, vinylidene fluoride and a non-fluorinated monomer and polyfluoroethylene suspended in a matrix such as a polyimide. The fluoro-polymer carrier coating material may be conventionally employed carrier coating materials modified by addition of compatible fluorine-modified resins. Numerous suitable materials are specified. Core materials may be sodium chloride, ammonium chloride, aluminium potassium chloride, Rochelle salt, sodium nitrate, potassium chlorate, granular zircon, granular silicon, methylmethacrylate, glass, silicon dioxide, flintshot, iron, steel, ferrite, nickel, carborundum and mixtures of these. For "touchdown" donor surfaces the carrier material may be cloth, metal backed paper, regenerated cellulose, aluminium foil, polyethylene terephthalate and polyvinyl resins, cellulosic materials and protein materials
