Abstract

1438898 Preservation D FUJISHIMA and S FUJISHIMA 26 June 1974 [27 Dec 1973 7 Jan 1974] 28367/74 Heading A2D [Also in Divisions B8 and Cl] Food and other materials susceptible to deterioration by oxygen are preserved by the presence of an oxygen-absorbing composition comprising a dry, homogeneous mixture of a porous granular or particulate filler and an alkaline substance having a dithionite distributed evenly therein. The composition may be placed in a bag of air-permeable material which bag is in turn packaged inside an airimpervious material. The alkaline substance may be calcium, magnesium or sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate or bicarbonate and the filler active carbon with an average diameter of 0.2-1mm. The use of the composition in the preservation of coffee, croutons. bread crumbs and hamburgers is exemplified.
