Abstract

1438359 Linkwork PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 Sept 1973 [7 Sept 1972] 41478/73 Heading F2K Rotation of an input crank 1 about a point 2 produces, via an interconnected linkwork arrangement, reciprocation of an output bar 18 carrying at its end a gripper device 19, the linkwork arrangement being such that reciprocating movement of the bar 18 is accompanied at its end dead centre positions 25, 26 with an additional movement at right angles to the reciprocating movement whereby the gripper device 19 may initially lift an object (not shown) up from a table surface (not shown) at one end 26 of its movement before moving along its reciprocating path 17 to the other end 25 of its movement, to displace the object over a given distance, and lowering the object to another surface (not shown). As shown, the linkwork arrangement comprises a 1st isosceles coupling triangle 4 pivotally connected at one corner 3 to the crank 1 and at its apex 5 to a bar 6 pivotally connected to a fixed point 8, the bar 6 being of the same length as the sides 7 of triangle 4, such that rotation of crank 1 reciprocates the other corner 9 of the triangle 4 along a path 10 A 2nd isosceles coupling triangle 12 is pivotally connected at one corner to the corner 9 of the 1st triangle 4 and is pivotally connected at its apex 13 to a 1st parallelogram linkage 14, 22, 23 pivotally mounted on fixed points 15, 24. A 2nd parallelogram linkage pivotally connected to the top of the 1st parallelogram linkage and having link 22 in common therewith is formed by links 21, 22, one side of the 2nd triangle between apex 13 and a corner 16, and completed by the output bar 18 which is connected at points 16, 20 to form the 2nd parallelogram and outwardly extends therefrom to carry at its other end the gripper device 19. The interconnected linkwork arrangement is such that rotation of crank 1 reciprocates corners 9 along path 10, which via the interconnected 2nd triangle and two parallelogram linkages reciprocates bar 18 along a path 17 which at its dead centre end positions 25, 26 additionally moves at right angles to the reciprocating movement.
