Abstract

1438340 Alkali metal chromates NIPPON CHEMICAL INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 31 Dec 1973 60199/73 Heading C1A A process for the production of an alkali metal chromate from a chromic ore comprises heating together at a temperature of from 400‹ to 700‹ C. (a) a chrome ore, (b) more than 2 moles of an alkali metal hydroxide per mole of Cr 2 O 5 present in the chrome ore and (c) from 1À0-2À5 moles on the same basis of an alkali metal salt of a nitrogen oxyacid, to react the reactants in the molten state to form an alkali metal chromate, and leaching with water or a dilute solution of an alkali metal chromate. The residue obtained after leaching may be reslurried and treated with a nitrogen oxygen, to recover the alkali metal content as a salt of said nitrogen oxyacid, to be recycled above. Silica may be added such that the Al 2 O 3 /SiO 2 ratio is between 1 : 1 and 1 : 3.
