1438318 Refrigeration fluid; lubricants CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 19 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972 11 Dec 1973] 59874/72 Headings C4X and C5F A refrigeration fluid suitable for use in a refrigeration apparatus of the sealed compressor type, comprises a homogeneous mixture of a refrigerant and a chemically inert, wax-free lubricant, the refrigerant being a halo-substituted hydrocarbon having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms and at least 40% by weight of fluorine and the lubricant being a mixture of monosubstituted, branched chain alkyl benzenes having an average molecular weight in the range of from 300 to 470, at least 60% by weight of the alkyl groups of the alkylbenzenes being derived from polypropylene and the alkyl groups having an average of at least one branch for every 5 carbons in the alkyl group. The mixture of alkylbenzenes may be obtained by HF-catalysed alkylation of benzene with mixed polypropylenes. In the examples the refrigeration fluids comprise difluorochloromethane, hexapropylene benzene, blend of C 9 -C 30 polypropylene benzene, blend of C 15 -C 20 linear alkylbenzene and pentafluoroethane. The fluids may also contain foam inhibitors, metal deactivators, oxidation inhibitors, viscosity improvers and scavengers for hydrogen chloride.
