Abstract

1438181 Spot-type disc brakes SKF INDUSTRIAL TRADING & DEVELOPMENT CO BV 22 May 1973 [23 May 1972] 24381/73 Heading F2E A combined brake disc and rolling bearing for a vehicle comprises a pair of bearing races 3, 4, each having an integral radial flange, an annular series of rolling elements 5 and a connecting member 8 releasably securing the brake disc 1 to the flange 6 on one bearing race 4, the connecting member 8 comprising a shank portion having a head 12 at one end, a fixing portion 13 at or adjacent its other end for fixing the member to the flange (as shown) or the brake disc, and a guide portion 9 between the head and fixing portion, the guide portion having guide surfaces 10, 11 of a predetermined configuration to mate with co-operating guide surfaces 10a, 11a provided in the brake disc (as shown) or the flange to allow limited radial movement of the brake disc relative to the flange. As shown, fixing portion 13 is threaded and a nut may be applied; the co-operating guide surfaces are provided in a radial recess 7. In Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) the guide portion is a separate member on a circular- or polygonalsection shank. In Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) the connecting member points the other way and its guide portion is located in an opening in flange 6 having a radial length greater than that of the guide portion.
