Abstract

1438151 Polymeric carriers for enzymes CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED 7 Aug 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 37427/73 Headings C3H and C3P Polymeric carriers for biologically active compounds, e.g. enzymes, are obtained by reacting together (A) the surface of a primary carrier containing reactive groups, which carrier is either a naturally occurring three-dimensional polymer such as wool, silk or collagen, or a water-soluble three-dimensional synthetic polymer derived at least in part from a bi- or multifunctional monomer, and (B) a secondary carrier which is a water-soluble linear polymer containing reactive groups complementary to those of the first carrier and also containing, either initially or by subsequent reaction, active ligands able to bind a biologically active compound. In examples, (1) a primary carrier comprising a hydrolysed and diazotized hydroxyethyl methacrylate/ethylene glycol dimethacrylate/2 - (p - acetaminophenoxy)ethy] methacrylate copolymer is reacted with a secondary carrier comprising a diethylene glycol monomethacrylate/2 - (p - acetaminophenoxy)ethyl methacrylate, and subsequent to reaction the remaining diazo groups on the primary carrier are coupled with #-naphthol, and the secondary carrier is then diazotized; (2) similar to (1) except that after the reaction of the primary and secondary carriers the aminophenyl groups of the latter are mercurated with mercuric acetate; and (3) a primary carrier comprising a hydroxyethyl methacrylate/ethylene glycol dimethacrylate/methacrylanilide copolymer is reacted with a secondary carrier comprising a diazotized diethylene glycol monomethacrylate/2 - (p - acetaminophenoxy) ethyl methacrylate copolymer. Chymotrypsin is bound to the products of above Examples 1 and 3, and papain to the product of Example 2.
