Abstract

1438027 Bearings; conveying rotary motion FRANCE ARMED FORCES MINISTER OF 24 Sept 1973 [25 Sept 1972] 44753/73 Headings F2A and F2K An assembly for transmitting rotary motion comprises a shaft 2 rotatably mounted in a smooth walled hole 1c in a wall 1, and a thrust roller bearing 12 which surrounds the shaft 2 and is mounted in a hollow boss 9 secured to one side of the wall 1, the shaft 2 comprising at least two non-integral portions 2a, 2b, 2c, one of which, 2c, extends beyond the wall and has a shoulder 22c which co-operates with the bearing 12 to transfer axial load from the shaft portion 2c to the wall 1 via the bearing 12. The embodiment shows a third shaft portion 2b, Fig. 2, in the form of a keyed disc which connects the other shaft portions 2a, 2c. The assembly may be used to provide a mechanical connection through the wall of a submarine.
