Abstract
1437535 Book covers D G BEARD 24 Sept 1974 [10 July 1973] 32755/73 Heading B6A A cover for school text books, car service manuals and the like is manufactured in two steps, the first of which comprises wrapping a printed sheet, e.g. of paper, around two stiffening boards spaced apart a distance corresponding to the spine of the book etc. and sticking it thereto, and the second of which comprises inserting this assembly between two sheets of plastics material, e.g. P.V.C. and adhering them together e.g. by welding, at their peripheries. At least one of the sheets is transparent to expose the printed surface of the printed sheet. The assembly of printed sheet and boards may be made in a conventional cover-making machine in which suction mechanism places the boards on the glued printed sheet, the edges of which are then folded over to overlap the boards, kraft paper being applied from a reel to the spine of the cover. The whole assembly is then pressed and fed to a welding machine where is it sandwiched between plastics sheeting fed from two reels and is welded up.
