Abstract

1437337 Shredding grain DARRELL LEA FOODS Ltd 30 Aug 1973 [11 Sept 1972] 42170/72 Heading A2Q Grain, e.g. rice, is shredded in a continuous process by passing it between two friction faces one of which is rotating relative to the other, the temperature of the faces being maintained above 100‹C but below a predetermined maximum temperature. In Fig. 1, annular friction surface 44 on the left is fixed and annular friction surface 56 is rotated on shaft 24. The separation between the surfaces is controlled by turning bolts 18 and 21. Grain is fed from duct 34 to the annular gap between the friction surfaces by worm conveyor 35. Worm conveyor 35 is driven by shaft 23. Both shafts 23 and 24 are driven by electric motors (not shown). The temperature of the friction faces is controlled by cold air from blower 5 directed on to the friction heads by ducts 65 and 66. The blower is connected to temperature sensor 70 so as to switch on and off at predetermined temperatures.
