Mounting and supporting.-Installations comprising a turbine and a machine driven thereby, e.g. a compressor, are mounted rigidly upon a foundation at one central point, the other points of support being non-rigid so as to allow lateral and transverse expansion of the plant, whilst not permitting any twist or movement allowing the elements to get out of alinement. In the example illustrated, the installation comprises a turbine 10 directly coupled to a centrifugal compressor 11. A condenser 12 is rigidly secured to the turbine. The only rigid point of support is in the centre, where the turbine is secured to a main foundation 13 bv a bolt 14. Additional security is attained by bolts 14a, but the openings for these bolts are sufficiently oversize to allow a certain amount of movement in a horizontal plane. The end of the turbine is mounted upon a plate 17, which is sufficient]y flexible to allow small axial movement. The compressor is furnished with supports 22, which rest upon sole-plates 24, both of which 'are made with keyways 25 within which are short keys 23. The compressor can accordingly slide in an axial direction and can rock slightly on the keys 23. The outer end of the condenser 12 is mounted upon a support 35, to which it is secured by loosely-fitting bolts 40. Specification 8455/12 is referred to.
